Hi, and WELCOME!

I’m Hailey Burns - Jesus follower, wife, mom, middle school teacher, and writer.

Sunday School teacher, devotion writer and curriculum creator.

Referee, chief cuddler, phone checker, and loud sideline cheerleader for my three kids.

Writing guide, reading coach, and essay grader for my 8th grade students.

In my abundance of spare time (when I’m not teaching, cooking, cleaning, or chauffeuring), I enjoy writing about what I’m learning in my personal Bible study.

What’s Up with the Blog Name?

“Keep Keeping Me.” It may seem like a strange name, but for my life, it’s PERFECT! I’ll explain:

One of my favorite verse that scrolls through my mind on repeat is Psalm 40:11:

“As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain your mercy from me; your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me” (Psalm 40:11).

The Hebrew word used here for preserve is nasar, and it means:

  • To guard or protect from danger

  • To watch over with care

  • To keep or guard with fidelity

  • To be kept close or blockaded in

In other words, this verse says God’s faithfulness will always keep me. This is GREAT news because I desperately need keeping.

I like to talk, but I need God to keep a guard over my mouth. (It sometimes moves faster than my brain. Like, as in open mouth, insert foot.)

I juggle a lot of responsibilities and my calendar is FULL. I need God to keep me on track and keep my focus on Him. (Let’s just admit it - trying to figure out how to get 1 kid to baseball, the 2nd kid to a friend’s house, and the 3rd to cheerleading all at the same time can make anybody absolutely crazy.)

I wander. I stray. I lose sight of the eternal and obsess over things that don’t matter much in the long run. I need God to keep me close, to block me in, to surround me, encircle me and save me from the world (and myself!).

And He does. He keeps me. He protects and preserves me. He provides for me. He watches over me.

He did it yesterday, He’s doing it today, and He’ll do it tomorrow. Always.

So “Keep Keeping Me” is a declaration of my dependence on God. It’s my desperate and daily prayer for help. But it’s also a sweet reminder that even before I ask, God is already keeping me, and will continue to do so because He is a faithful promise-keeper.

Life can be tough, but no matter what comes my way, I’m well-kept.

So THANKS!

I’m so excited you stopped by my little slice of cyberspace.

It means a lot. And I hope you find something here to encourage and challenge you as you enjoy living in God’s good keeping.
